This is a business school website from the University of Texas at Austin. It has video highlights of the past winners from their busines plan competitions. It is well worth a look if you are interested in competing in Business Plan competitions in the future. See what they have done well, and try to learn from their mistakes (and their success).
As you know, one of the main reasons for competing in a business plan compeition is to get the business funded. If you are looking for Venture Capital type of money, then you might want to check out our page: Presenting your plan to Venture Capitalists
Global Social Venture Competition
The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is the largest student-run business plan contest in the world, which provides mentoring, exposure and prizes for social ventures from around the world. GSVC started off at the Haas School of Business at Berkeley, and since then, Columbia Business School, Yale School of Management, London Business School and the Indian School of Business have joined as partner schools.
The Global Social Venture Competition is the largest and oldest student-led business plan competition providing mentoring, exposure, and prizes for social ventures from around the world. The mission of the GSVC is to catalyze the creation of social ventures, educate future leaders and build awareness of social enterprises. The competition supports the creation of real businesses that bring about positive social change in a sustainable manner.
VCIC: Venture Capital Investment Competition’s international finals
Next month I’ll be making my annual pilgrimage down to Chapel Hill, to help judge the Venture Capital Investment Competition’s international finals. And if you’re an entrepreneur in search of venture funding, I hope to see you there.
VCIC is not a business plancontest. Instead, it’s a competition in which business schoolers are asked to assume the roles of venture capitalists — including due diligence, submitting term sheets and defending their decisions.
All of this depends on the participation of entrepreneurs, who present their companies, submit to questions and get feedback from both the students and real venture capitalists (i.e., all judges other than me). Forty percent of the companies selected to present at the VCIC International Finals go on to raise an average of $9.5 million in venture capital.
That’s officially correlation rather than causation, but the experience will certainly help you hone your pitch — and Q&A abilities — in an educational environment. You also get to schmooze with “real” VCs from firms like Atlas Venture, Foundry Group, Oxford Bioscience Partners and Aurora Capital. See a partial list of past participantsor of past judges.
All types of companies are encouraged to submit themselves for consideration. You can get more information here, orsend an email directly to event organizer Patrick Vernon. Be sure to tell him I sent you…
