KookyPlan ideas:  new ideas from KP community

Did you ever have an idea that you thought could change the world? You wished that you had the time / money / connections to make it happen, and even though you thought about it...you knew you would never get around to actually doing it? If so, then this is the site for you! I have tons of ideas that I think are really great, but I know in my heart that I will never have time to do them all (or even a handful of them). So, rather then hoarding them all in my little binder of ideas, Ive decided to publish them, and allow other people to read them (and hopefully turn them into successful businesses one day!). My dream is that other people might read these ideas one day, and get inspired to take action. Im going to put a digital signature on each of my original ideas, with a link to my profile on LinkedIn, so if you want to contact me, and ask me any questions about my ideas (how it would work, etc), please feel free to do so. I guess in a way, this will function as my own creative resume of ideas. I hope in time that other people will also want to add their ideas to this site, and that we can togther make this a giant collection of really great ideas.

Did you ever wish the packaging on a bottle was easier to open? Or, that your remote control would operate all of your appliances? Or, did you ever wish that somebody would design a product to do XYZ ? If you have an idea that you think you might turn into a business one day, then by all means...keep it secret. But, if you know that you will never do it...then, please...share it with the world, and let’s make it happen! My idea is that any wanna-be entrepreneur could use this site as a resource for idea finding. The rest of us can use this site as a means of venting all of our really great ideas that we wish somebody else would implement!

Mesh Wi-Fi network for the Northeast of Brazil

Hang mesh WiFi routers from lightposts around town, and use the cheap infrastructure to deliver broadband internet access to areas of the world in which traditional broadband with wires is too expensive and too slow in deployment.  Note:  cities all over the US are currently building systems, but none are doing it (yet) in Brazil.

Use webcam plus identification techniques to sell furniture online.

The webcams in the store would record which furniture pieces were held in stock. The store would fill out an identification sticker and place it on the furniture in the store. When the webcam sees the sticker, it would scan and recognize which piece it was based on information stored in the database. Online sales could then be made for specialty stores that stock one of a kind pieces. Stores that currently find it impractical to go online would then have a labor -free way of keeping an online store up to date with the current inventory on hand in their store.

Button for the radio in your car

that would record the title and author of the song. Create a small button that a driver would press whenever they heard a song that they wanted to remember. Then that little button-like device could be plugged into a computer with a USB connection and automatically connected to iTunes, or another store for purchase...

Create a specialized education program focusing on private banking in Miami.

Following the concepts of Porter and the necessity of "clusters", I recognize that Miami is in need of a specialized business training facility that focuses on creating the future employees of the private banking community...

Cell phone translation service

that could be used by business travelers to China, or other countries. When you want to get something translated, you text message to the service, and wait for a response either by text message, or by a phone call. You can put it on speaker phone to tell the taxi driver where to go...

Franchise a chain of barbershops for men.

Code name = "boober -shop". My wife hates the code-name, (please, dont really call it this!), but I think the idea is quite good. You should create a barbershop, but make it a place where normal guys can go and get a haircut from an attractive female. No more being man-handled by the guy who works at Super Cuts. No more paying crazy prices to go to women’s beauty salons. My idea is to take the Starbucks concept and create a cool, relaxing place. The prices might be a little high, but like Starbucks, people come for the experience.

General labor website with peer-reviews.

Use the 5 stars reviewing process to rate local handymen. It would be like a Reverse auction labor / contractor website – like a reverse -eBay but for contractors, plumbers, electricians, roofers, etc. Since I came up with this idea, I learned about angie's list, but I think she got it wrong. Here is how I originally thought the market should be organized...

Random business ideas for China.

Anyone that visits China these days is sure to come home with a suitcase full of business ideas that they think would be successful. If your like me, and if you want to share these ideas with the group, then please feel free to add them in here.

Sell advertising space on rooftops

to and create a buzz ad campaign using google earth satellite imaging. A really neat campaign would be to take a group of houses or buildings, and paint their rooftops as pieces of an ad and then sell that space to a company like coke, and create a buzz of people that go to look at the ad on google earth...

Represent Brazilian Artist Romero Britto in China.

This appears to be a big opportunity for the right business person. This artist has already proven to be extremely easy to market to public spaces, buildings, airports and so on. When I was in China recently I was amazed at how they lacked colorful art in any of their public spaces. If I was interested in exporting to China, I would consider this a very good idea. Somebody should put together a business plan for this, and approach Romero Britto with the plan. Im sure that a good entrepreneur / manager would be successful... (note: this idea does not originate from Romero Britto, nor anyone related or affiliated with the artist).

create a unique designed cabinet that could hold and display all of these new photos

Design a unique piece of furniture to hold the massive volume of photos that people are now taking with digital cameras. Ever since the digital camera became more affordable, people have been taking more and more photos. With the mass of extra new photos that are getting printed, I think there is an opportunity for the furniture industry to create a unique designed cabinet that could hold and display all of these new photos. Think of it like a touch screen, but instead of just a table, you integrate it into a working cabinet, and allow for people to store their printed photos as well as have a projector to show the digital ones on a wall...

Baby crib rentals for the first two weeks of life.

When you have your first child you will know what I’m talking about. The first day or two in the hospital is a process of getting your baby accustomed to the crib, and for you getting accustomed to the diaper-changing routine. But, just when you finally think "ok, I can do this"...they send you home, and you discover that your crib is too big; the diaper supplies are too far from the crib; and that everything you became accustomed to in the hospital is now different. My idea is that somebody should purchase an inventory of matching supplies just like from the hospital, and then rent those supplies to new parents during their first 1-2 weeks transition to home....

franchise of baby einstein day cares

Make a baby day care franchise with theme of "Baby Einstein", like from the videos. This would be a big hit since all parents already are crazy about purchasing anything from Baby Einstein videos for their infants. My idea is to take this passion that parents already have for the brand, and leverage it into a franchise of baby einstein day cares.

Navigation device for the car

that uses citywide municipal Wi-Fi to access internet, and then use google mapping technology to tell the driver where is the nearest store / restaurant. Then use location based advertising to continuously scroll local based ads directed to the passenger (obviously not for the driver :-)

remote control with on off switch

Upgrade to New Yorks Coney Island

A baby diaper that changes color when full

Anyone who has ever tried to call a large company has learned to dread the labyrinthine touch-tone menu systems most employ. Fortunately, help is now on the way from a Canadian startup with a "Deep Dialing" service that lets users avoid those phone menus altogether.

Toronto-based Fonolo works by using transcriptions of the phone menus of large companies so that users can navigate them visually. Users simply pick the company they need to call, scan through the company's phone menu visually, then click the spot they need. Fonolo will automatically dial, navigate the menu and then dial the user's phone. When the user answers, they will be connected to the right spot in the menu—hence the name, Deep Dialing. Users can bookmark any point in a phone menu that they call regularly and access it as a simple URL through their browser or smart phone. Fonolo can also build and maintain an “intelligent call history” for the user to keep track of calls and conversations during a bill dispute, for example, including storing text notes and saving recordings of each call; transcriptions are coming soon, the company says.

Fonolo uses patented technology that "spiders" the phone system much the way a web search engine like Google spiders the web. The system regularly dials companies, navigates their menus and uses a combination of speech recognition, signal processing and human editing to maintain an updated map of “phone space.” Fonolo also just opened up its system to developers, introducing an API that lets developers build applications that interact with the Deep Dialing service. More at developer.fonolo.com.

For users, the system is free and can be used on any phone, with no software to install. Fonolo will reportedly be ad-supported once it launches officially. It's currently still in private beta, but is accepting email addresses for invitation to the public beta, which is coming soon. No word yet on its geographical reach, but it certainly won't be long before the telcos sit up and take notice. One to get in on early!

Shared parking places

Spotting one new business idea is good. Spotting two new business ideas working together is even better. Last month, we wrote about Peasy, an online exchange for parking spaces. A very similar British service, ParkAtMyHouse.com, also lets people rent out their private parking spaces, and recently partnered with ZipCar, a company we first featured back in 2003. With about 80,000 consumer and business drivers, ZipCar is the world's largest and fastest growing car sharing service. Founded in the United States, ZipCar recently launched in London, which will become the hub for the company's expansion into Europe.

The partnership between ParkAtMyHouse and ZipCars gives ZipCars more places to park in London, and parking space owners a larger pool of potential clients. By renting to ZipCar, they'll receive their usual payment as well as GBP 85 worth of free driving credit if they sign up for ZipCar. Consumers or businesses who have a parking spot but don't own a car can monetize their parking space and have the luxury of a ZipCar parked on their doorstep, ready to use when they need it. (ZipCars cost from GBP 4.95 an hour, which covers parking, petrol, insurance, maintenance, Congestion Charge and 60 miles of driving.)

At bit more about ParkAtMyHouse, which was founded by 23-year-old Anthony Eskinazi: anyone can register to rent out their parking space to consumers and businesses. Car owners can pre-book a spot daily, or one-off for a football match or a day of shopping in the city. Usually for much less than they would otherwise pay for parking. ParkAtMyHouse offers a smart search functionality. For example, typing in 'Sadler's Wells' displays all parking spaces for rent near the theatre, ordered by proximity. A quick search reveals that 311 spaces are currently available in London. Members can also put up ads for spaces wanted. Listings show the need for city parking spots, and range from "I'm a doctor at Kings Hospital and URGENTLY need a parking spot nearby - can anyone help?" to "Looking for a lockable garage or bay in secure multi-storey for a classic car."

Those of you setting up an online parking exchange in your own neck of the woods, be sure to hook up with your local car sharing companies!
