Debt financing is one way in which a company can raise money in order to invest in assets.   A firm will issue, or sell, a piece of paper called "debt"...loan agreement, mortgage, etc.

 

Short term debt:  current liability - typically due within one year.

 

Long-term debt:  longer than one year
